Happy New Year!

New years are like new beginnings. We have an opportunity to ponder the previous year and consider how we want the new year to be a little different. I know so many people who make New Year’s resolutions, only to feel discouraged by their failure as early as February.

If I could encourage anything to you for 2018 resolutions, I would make the following recommendations:

  • Anytime you are tempted to feel discouraged, quickly recognize those feelings and command them to leave. I say things to myself like; “You’ve got this Monica,” or “Yes, it’s difficult but you were made to do difficult things,” or “OK, so maybe that didn’t go so well but that’s why there’s tomorrow,” etc. People, discouragement is not of God. It is the quickest way to hinder our progress in anything. Decide that this year, you will not be plagued with discouragement.
  • Decide that this year, you will finally let go of complaining. Do you know someone who complains constantly? Are they fun to hang around? Is it you? Give everyone in your life the gift of you being positive and happy. It is one of the greatest gifts we can give to anyone. Why not look at the glass half full? Why not look for the silver lining? There always is one! Every single time! You simply must find it. May you find great joy in becoming the most positive person you know.
  • Challenge yourself to learn something new. This is so fun!! I love learning. We were created to learn, to progress, to gain knowledge. Seek it. It doesn’t matter what we learn, just learn. Perhaps you could learn to identify trees, or birds or flowers so when you are outside, you are more aware of the beauty of the earth. Perhaps you can learn how to sew or crochet or knit so that you can find joy in creating homemade keepsakes for those you love. Perhaps you can learn a new language so you can find joy in helping those of that language learn English. There is so much to learn and typically, when we learn something new, we find ways to bless the lives of others through our gained knowledge. It’s the most fun!

Ladies and gentlemen, may you have a wonderful blessed 2018. May you slow down and smell the roses. May you remember that every day we are given breath is a blessing and one that we should not take for granted. May you always look for ways to bring joy to others for this is how we gain happiness.

Happy 2018!
